This is one issue that exists for success: what is more important, or street smarts Smarts book? Traditionally, people have grown with the notion that success leads to finish school, get a degree and find a job that promised a lifetime career.
However, the last decades have seen the emergence of successful companies, founded and led by college dropouts. These men and women are constantly in the news business and they are examples of how it is possible to succeed in life without getting a college degree. You Look not even in new business for these kinds of people. All around us, it is self-made millionaires who made their fortunes through initiatives entrepreneurial. These people often claim to be self-taught in school the most difficult of all, the school of hard knocks of life.
Then what is the key to success in life? Who will go further: the Graduate Business School book smart or self-made, street smart entrepreneur?
Book Smarts tops the list
In 2008 Forbes listing of the world's 100 richest men, 8 of the 10 richest men earned a university degree. The descent of the list, there's really only a handful of people who have not graduated college. Many of these billionaires are continuing their studies in business school or a master's or doctoral degree to obtain a graduate degree. Clearly, education has been an important tool in the initial and continuing success of these people. Running a large multinational corporation or company is not a something that comes naturally to many people. Yet many of these people will tell you they have probably learned more about the work in the classroom especially when it comes to managing people and situations in the real world.
Street Smarts Make the News
However, a handful of people actually on the list inherited their wealth from family farms. It certainly did not need any kind of instruction to inherit the money, although it might require a degree to learn to hold on to it. Also, if you look at people who do not graduated from college, they are names that are instantly familiar. Bill Gates (3rd richest) and Paul Allen of Microsoft, Michael Dell of Dell Corporation, and Lawrence Ellison of Oracle are the most notable. But beyond their business acumen, charisma and vision, they are obviously people naturally intelligent with enough brainpower to know how to put together their talents to come to the idea a great success.
The key success
It seems that no one key to success in life. Knowledge and intellectual skills certainly play a large role in the foundation of a successful career. But it also requires vision, charisma, a good work ethic, and not a little intuition to make things work together. Success is not just behind a door. It is behind many doors, and a series of gates, so that you'll need more than one key.
